ROSPHOTO invites specialists to take part in the international conference Photography in Museum: Conditions of Storage and Exhibiting.

ROSPHOTO announces its next international conference, Photography in Museum:Conditions of Storage and Exhibiting, to take place in September 2009. Photography in Museum is an annualy held conference attending to the full scope of issues regarding various uses of photographic image in museum practices, photographs as museum objects and part of museum collection. ROSPHOTO has started the implementation of its program, dedicated to the monitoring of photographic collections in the state holdings. The aims of the program are:
• creating catalogue of Russia's photographic collections;
• determination of especially valuable items;
• evaluation of possibilities and methods of providing access to photographic information;
• assessment of storage conditions and the level of preservation of collections and individual items;
• development of storage stabilisation programs for photographic collections;
• acquiring preliminary information on the currently run state archives' programs of monitoring of the storage of photographs;
• skill improvement for specialists in the areas of concerning storage, conservation and exhibiting of photographic materials;
• planning of conservation and restoration activities. The conference will be dedicated to the discussion of the first results and further perspectives of the national monitoring program. Information will be shared about Russia's unique regional photographic collections. Among speakers are the representatives of the museums that have become regional centres for ROSPHOTO's monitoring program/ Also speaking will be museum specialists from Moscow, St.-Petersburg, Finland, Great Britain, Scotland. The materials of the conference, along with some guidance information, will be published in a collected volume as a result of the conference.
